Why-I-Write---Kindle-Giveaway

UPDATE: WINNERS SELECTED! (Thank you for your patience!)

Thank you SO MUCH for participating, for inspiring and for sharing your truth and passion. It has been incredibly hard to select only one winner. I wish I could give away 20 kindles.

In addition to the one KINDLE WINNER, I have selected 5 additional runner-ups whom I couldn’t resist — and who will receive a FREE copy of my recently published, co-authored Health & Wellness guidebook, The 30-Day Wellness Alchemist Detox.

As for the rest, there are at least 25 more entries I have deeply enjoyed and selected to quote (and link back to) in an article collecting (at least) 101 Reasons to Write I’m hoping to post this October. Stay tuned!

If you are one of the following people, please email write@andreabalt.com with your mailing address to send you your gift.

THANKS FOR SPREADING THE WRITING VIRUS. ENJOY!

YOU’VE MADE A DIFFERENCE. THANK YOU! NEVER STOP WRITING!

{ORIGINAL GIVEAWAY POST}

Just write every day of your life. Read intensely. Then see what happens. Most of my friends who are put on that diet have very pleasant careers.

– Ray Bradbury

As we approach the end of our Intensive 30-Days-of-Writing Super Challenge, I have a special gift for all you voracious readers and writers, pressed for time and space, and thirsty for more compact inspiration, who could use some focus, save some trees and increase your reading speed, free of distractions.

I’m giving away a brand new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite! — aka, the “Best Reading Device Ever. Period.”  Because some marketing claims are just true…

I’ve been asked in more than one occasion about my favorite reading device (aside from real books that smell like ink and paper).

Here are some of the main reasons why I choose a Kindle over any other device (iPad, Nook, etc.):

– When I read, I like to read. Having full and colorful internet access with all its pretty features easily accessible on my “book” is a bit weird, let alone incredibly distracting. When I read, I like to read. Even if this device has WIFI incorporated (in case you need it), its black & white book-like interface makes it very unappealing to check your emails, websites or scroll through social media. I already have a phone and a computer to distract all the analog life out of me. A Kindle is designed  for reading and it does a hell of a job at keeping you focused.

– Unlike an iPad, phone, or computer, it doesn’t have a reflective screen but reads like paper, which means you can read outside, even in the hottest sun, without the annoying screen glare. Sunshine or shadow, it has a book feeling.

– I live in Europe and, although old tiny bookstores and paper books will always be my #1 lover, the easiest, fastest, cheapest and more eco-friendly way to get my hands on the newest titles is via Amazon. So it’s nice to be able to purchase a title you’ve been dying for with one click and have it delivered immediately, postage and paper free.

– It’s very light and travel-friendly. Especially great for complicated and unpractical people who always end up with a suitcase full of bodies. (Or why always so damn heavy?)

– It’s so thin and tiny, it fits in any purse. I even take it with me while grocery shopping so I can read while standing in line.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

Because reading and writing are sides of the same moon, in addition to the Kindle Paperwhite, I’ll put 3 of my favorite books about writing on it, so you have some reading material right away. Here are the titles coming with your kindle:

The War of Art by Stephen Pressfield. Not just for writers but for any creators. Game-changing. Life-giving.

– Stephen King’s masterpiece and favorite writing classic, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft.

– A most enjoyable writer’s companion from one of the best teachers: The Art of Fiction by John Gardner.

If you already own any of these titles, you can replace them with either of the following (no excuses):

– Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within — Natalie Goldberg

– Bird by Bird: Some instructions in writing and life — Anne Lamott

How Fiction Works — James Wood

BUT WAIT, THERE’S EVEN MORE!

In addition to the Kindle Paperwhite + 3 of my Top Favorite Books on Writing, I have a special bonus to add to that package:

– A copy of my latest fresh off the press co-creation:  The 30-Day Wellness Alchemist Detox: A 30-Day Mind-Body-Heart Self-Recovery Program and a blueprint for self-healing and a journey inward to connect with your deepest truths and awaken your inner healer. The Wellness Alchemist is a one of a kind experience — with journaling exercises, daily mind-body check-ins, and full participation and interaction on the part of the reader.

I wanted to make it fun for all the participants even if you don’t win the big prize, so here’s how this is going down.

1. Sign up for my Writing List HERE — to enter. If you are already signed up for this list, this step is NOT necessary.

Winner will be announced two weeks from today, on Monday, September 8.

So even if you don’t win the giveaway, hopefully you can use this exercise to remind yourself and inspire others in the process about your love affair with writing.

I can’t wait to read your posts! You have 10 days starting today. Andale!
